Autumn Fall Wedding on Maine Farm

I love a September wedding in Maine. Sunny summer days with puffy white clouds give way to cool evening breezes, and just the hint of a change of color on the tops of the trees. Adam and Nicole were gifted with a classic Maine September day for their wedding celebration, which took place by the pond at River Winds Farm and Estate in Saco, Maine. Being a creative artist, Adam puts a lot of thought into the meaning and sentiment behind everything he does. And for their wedding ceremony, Adam wanted to capture the very moment of their first kiss. In paint. This was not only the first time I had photographed a “paint ceremony”, it was the first time any of them had done one, and it went off without a hitch. A blank canvas was placed on the ground at their ceremony site, and when it came time to seal their union with a kiss, Adam and Nicole distributed paint in greens and blues around the canvas. With the help of their best man and maid of honor, the two stepped their shoes into the wet paint on the canvas at the very moment they had their first kiss as husband and wife. Adam’s creation was complete, and when they walked down the aisle, they had a keepsake impression of their shoe prints sealed in paint, to cherish and remember. I often tell my couples, “I know this feels like the best day ever, and it is, but what you don’t realize in this very moment, is that it only gets better from here.” Indeed it has only gotten better for Adam and Nicole since that walk down the aisle, as they are expecting their first child on Father’s Day.  And one day, they’ll be able to share the canvas of their shoe prints from their wedding with their children and grandchildren, a legacy to be passed down through the generations. Mother Nature had one more gift it store for Adam and Nicole, a gorgeous display of colors at sunset, almost as if she knew it was her final summer goodbye for another year. Always appreciating the very moment that they are in, Adam and Nicole walked with me down to the pond to capture the feeling in a picture that speaks a thousand words.

To Adam and Nicole, may these photographs and the memory they invoke, always bring you back to the last day of summer in 2018, when you held each other close, for the first time as husband and wife.
